How to flash the Augen 08/04/10 Update Using a Mac

How to Install the Augen GENTOUCH78 Screen Calibration update 04 August 2010 Using a Mac and fastboot-mac

What You need:

The update (obviously):
http://augenus.com/7800atpsoftware.zip

FastBoot Mac:
http://developer.htc.com/adp.html
(Scroll Down to 'Get the Tools, and download:
Fastboot binary, OS X fastboot-mac  59071 ed784e50cfcaba3c60380c5f448aa354)

Preparation:

Make sure the Gentouch is connected to the charger, and the charger is plugged into the wall.  The batteries failing during this step will slag your Gentouch.  Watch that charger connection, it can be flaky.

Starting with the Gentouch off, Press and hold the 'Back' Button.  Momentarily press the Reset Button (in the little hole).  The Unit will power up, but the screen will be black.  You can release the 'Back' Button.

Connect the Gentouch to your Mac using a good quality USB cable.  The one that came with the Gentouch will probably be fine, but If you have a better one around, I suggest using it.

Do not use the USB ports on the front of a Power Mac (Desktop tower).  I recommend you do not go through a USB hub.

The Steps:

Create a new directory, and unzip both files.
Move/copy the fastboot-mac executable into the top level of the directory you just created.

Do the same with the .img files from the Augen Update:
boot.img
recovery.img
system.img

In other words, fastboot-mac and the 3 .img files must be in the same directory.  You do not need any of the other files, but you can read the PC directions as a reference.

Now do the Following, In Order:

./fastboot-mac flash recovery recovery.img

./fastboot-mac flash boot boot.img

./fastboot-mac flash system system.img

In each step, it will report something like:

sending 'recovery' (xxxx KB)... OKAY
writing 'recovery'... OKAY

The system.img takes a while.  It is larger.

Reboot.  You can do this by:
./fastboot-mac reboot

(If it does not actually reboot, just disconnect USB, and press the power button.)

The first boot will take longer than usual.  Don't panic, at least not immediately.

You should have the Calibration tool in the Apps Drawer.

Note:  This update fixes a few things, but it introduces one new bug:

If a USB cable is connected, the Gentouch will report that it is charging, but it is NOT.

The gentouch (AFAIK) does NOT physically have the capability of USB charging or power.  The indication is erroneous, you are still running on batteries unless you also have the charger connected.
