How I installed Market (Without perm root)
Jul 24th, 2012, 9:11am

How I installed the official Android Market/Google Play without permanent root, or Root Explorer:

NORMAL DISCLAIMERS APPLY:
I am not telling you to do this to your device.  I am telling you what I did to my device.
Event without rooting the phone, we will be entering commands as root.
This could render your device permanately un-useable.
Do not do this to your device until you independently understand and verify each step.

1.  You must have the Android SDK, and you must be free of command line phobia.

2.  No special USB drivers are required on a Mac or on Linux

Download the files from the link on the ibuygou.com website:
http://www.ibuygou.com/download/gapps-install.zip

Unzip it on the Linux box/Mac.

Connect the watch via USB

On the Linux box/Mac, Go to the tools directory of your Android SDK -- since I installed the SDK for a single user, it is just:
Code:
cd android-sdk-mac_86/tools

Apparently, Android on this device is not built in "Production mode"., so adb on the watch phone runs as root out of the box - no rooting required.
Verify this by doing:
Code:
./adb root

it should reply:
Code:
adbd is already running as root

Remount the filesystem.
Code:
./adb remount

If this is successful, install each .apk, one at a time using adb push.  It may be a little tedious, but it is easier and safer than rooting, or trying to do all this on a 2" screen.

Code:
./adb push <path to each .apk> /system/app
.
.
.

(Repeat for 14 apps, recalling, and editing the command line each time to get the proper .apk)

Fix the permissions:
Code:
./adb shell
cd /system/app
chmod 644 *
exit

Reboot:
Code:
./adb reboot

(Obvioulsy, you can also just reboot from the watch.)
When it reboots, it will mount the file system read only again, just like on every Android boot.

The watch should be just as it was from the vendor, but you should be greeted with the Google Initial sign-in page, just like a new device that has the Google services.

Sign in, and within a short time, the Market should automatically update to Google Play.

Excellent work. I've picked up this as a bit of a toy.

Thanks for the effort. Here's a mirror for the tools: http://tinyurl.com/cupbhrn and gapps http://tinyurl.com/d6wvdtl. I'll throw up any other useful files as I go

Just a tip, you can do

adb push . /system/app

and have it push every file in the directory to the system/app folder.

Saves some time Smiley

Thanks so much for this write up! I have a question though, and maybe its just that I need more coffee or something, but what is the "app-32756.apk" for?

And also, the latest Play Store app can be found thru AndroidPolice: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/12/13/download-latest-google-play-store-3-10-1 0/
