Sat Nav Apps Shut Down
Aug 14th, 2013, 1:12pm

My Vapirius has an interesting problem that appears to be memory related.

When I run either Sygic or iGO Primo sat nav apps, they start and run for a few minutes, but then shut down.

This occurs whether the apps are installed on SD card (32GB Class 10) or internal memory. I have stripped the watch down to almost zero apps and I only see Google core services running. Cleaned out cache and all the useless data. There is over 100MB free!

The watch is also rooted.

I'm thinking that may be the GPS isn't getting a lock fast enough, so I tried Active GPS app and a few other GPS enablers to get a quicker lock. Perhaps this is the cause?  Checked the GPS settings in the system folder and all normal.

Every other app runs perfectly.

GPS? Memory?

HELP!!

Do they get a GPS fix and then shutdown, or are they timing out because of no GPS fix?

The only thing I can suggest is starting up an adb session (with watch connected to PC) and watching the logcat.

You can also look at the logs in DDMS.

Since it is rooted, you can also just install a terminal app, and type 'logcat'.

But of course it's not the best screen for watching logs scroll by.

The logcat may tell you why the apps are quitting.

Sorted!

GPS was timing out. In fact sometime never got a lock at all.

Now the GPS is running well. Changed the system/etc/gps.conf  file to this (for the UK):

NTP_SERVER=0.europe.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.europe.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.europe.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.europe.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=0.uk.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.uk.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.uk.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.uk.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
SUPL_TLS_HOST=FQDN
SUPL_TLS_CERT=/etc/SuplRootCert
INTERMEDIATE_POS=1
ACCURACY_THRES=2500
DEFAULT_AGPS_ENABLE=TRUE
DEFAULT_USER_PLANE=FALSE

I'm currently running iGO Primo (my fave), Sygic and CoPilot Live Premium.

Edit:  Strike ACCURACY_THRES=2500.    I used ACCURACY_THRES=5000 for reliability
